Vught & surroundings
The area around Vught is known for its beautiful nature, culture, charming villages and the Burgundian 's-Hertogenbosch. There are numerous outings you can plan during a stay at Landgoed Huize Bergen.
National Monument Camp Vught
Camp Vught, or Konzentrationslager Herzogenbusch, was the only SS concentration camp outside Nazi Germany and the area annexed by Nazi Germany during the Second World War. National Monument Camp Vught aims to make a significant contribution to moral awareness in society by keeping the memory of concentration camp Vught alive and the fate of those who became connected to this place (even after the war). In addition, they strive to clarify the current significance of the (in)material testimonies and what the connection is with the issues of our time.
The Vughtse Heide
Walking on unpaved paths, enjoying nature and the landscape close to home. This is possible on the walks in Vught and the surrounding area. One of them is the walk 'Vughtse Heide', a 5 km walk. Walk from junction to junction and enjoy! In earlier centuries, Vught was often the scene of attacks on 's-Hertogenbosch. Discover the three lunettes that were built on the Vughtse Heide in the 19th century to withstand an attack from the young Belgium. Walk on the forest paths along the canals of these defenses. You will also pass Kamp Vught. Via forests you reach the last piece of real heathland. On the Loonsebaan there is a group of statues of two fighting knights on horseback that commemorates the last medieval battle in 1600 on the Vughtse Heide.
's-Hertogenbosch (Den Bosch)
From Landgoed Huize Bergen you will be staying near the Burgundian 's-Hertogenbosch (Den Bosch). Den Bosch is easily accessible from our hotel by car (10 min), bike (20 min) and train station Vught. Anyone who enters Den Bosch will feel like they are in a historical setting. Medieval buildings with stepped gables, cozy streets and monuments characterize the streetscape. Combine that with the Burgundian and hospitable atmosphere and you will understand why it is wonderful to stay in Den Bosch. What is typical of Bosch? A lot! The Bossche Draak for example, which you will find on the Stationsplein. The Bossche Bol, the Sint-Jans Cathedral, the Binnendieze, the painter Jheronimus Bosch, Theaterfestival Boulevard, Jazz in Duketown or the special carnival traditions of Oeteldonk. It is all characteristic of Den Bosch.
