The Plume Count

The Pluimgraaf is inspired by the story of the former gardener Wiebe Joustra of Landgoed Huize Bergen. His passion for plants and flowers led to a fascination for exotic herbs and spices.

This beer is enriched with an infusion of Rooibos, originating from South Africa. You will also taste subtle notes of liquorice and star anise.

The estate had several gardeners for the maintenance of the parks. One of the first, Bertus van der Vleuten, worked for the Fentener van Vlissingen couple. In 1919, the Frisian gardener Wiebe Joustra took over. He moved with his wife from Sneek to Vught and regularly published about his profession and the estate's greenhouses, including for the Dutch Orchid Society. In addition to tropical plants, Wiebe also managed the bird population, including the birds on the bird island. A striking sight were the flamingos, which stood gracefully between the rhododendrons, as the magazine Buiten described in 1931.

A special story is about the white peacocks, Charlotte van Beuningen's favorite birds. Wiebe was therefore nicknamed 'De Pluimgraaf' at Huize Bergen.
