The Bordes

The Bordes, the most beautiful place to enjoy all the sightlines of the historic estate. Created by an unknown garden architect and later (1919) adapted to the current setting by landscape architect L. Springer. Charlotte's father started organizing excursions to his country house, Huize Bergen. The garden and greenhouses were also very popular.

We would like to take you through the history of the area; look from left to right. In the distance you will see the following:

Huize Weltevreden (you will have to look a bit further for this), hidden behind the trees. This is the house where Charlotte's grandmother lived. You will recognize the house by the white-gray facade. The house borders directly on the traffic lights. The entrance to the estate was originally right in front of you. The bluestone entrance pillars with the name 'Huize Bergen' engraved have unfortunately disappeared because a ring road was built a few years ago (1996). The pond. Characteristic of this style of landscape gardens is the size of the water feature. Currently also very popular as a backdrop for a wedding ceremony. The water feature embraces Het Vogeleiland. You can visit this island; there is a bridge, so be sure to explore. A gazebo The large monumental beech tree
